Dear Junior Golfer, Parents,
&/or Guardians,
Included in this packet is information about the Cape Jr. Golf Tour and other fun activities run by the Cape May County Junior Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501 (c)(3). Now into its sixth season, we offer a full Calendar of Events: a Parent~Child league, Parent~Child Championship, nine Individual Tournaments, and a Skills Challenge. Also, there are Rules & Etiquette Seminars, Free Introductory Golf Clinics, and other Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Instruction available. See the attached Calendar of Events.
There are strong rewards for playing/competing in our events. First, learn golf the way it is meant to be played: for the fun of it and by the rules. Second, you get instant camaraderie with those your age that share a common interest in Golf. With the doors officially open to anyone wanting to play on the Cape Jr. Golf Tour, you will be playing golf with kids from all over Cape, Atlantic, and Cumberland Counties. Third, this is your chance to showcase your talents. Top players receive a medal the day of the event for their efforts, all players results are sent to the newspaper, and the top three players from each event are awarded a trophy at the Awards Banquet. Fourth, it is a great way to stay active during the spring and fall, with most other junior events held during the summer (less competitive down-time). Fifth, ‘Player of the Year’ standings are always updated and available. This is good for you to see how you stand with those in your age division and you can use the standings to help you with goal setting. There is also an award for the ‘Player of the Year’ at the Awards Banquet. Sixth, your ‘Player of the Year’ standing helps me to pick the ‘Cape May Team’ for the 2005 DRBA’s ‘Riegel Cup’ Matches against the ‘Lewis Team’ (Cape Jr. Golf Tour vs. the entire State of Delaware) this upcoming June. The top three from the list in each age division get an automatic exemption, while the fourth player will be the coach’s pick. I look at how you competed on the Cape Jr. Golf Tour, your standings, how you played the second half (since that is closer to the date of the matches), and your prior experience in the 2003 & 4 matches. Seventh, there are four ‘Majors’ like on the PGA Tour. If you win all four, you will have won the ‘Grand Slam.’ Go for it! Eighth, you may be eligible for a scholarship from the CMCJGF when you graduate from high school. Lastly, Ninth, you can play as much as you want, from one event to all of them. It’s all here for you to enjoy!
In 2004, I invested in a laptop computer and video software for golf swing analysis. Junior golf lessons are always ½ rate with me and now include a video golf swing analysis. Anyone wishing to take their golf games to the next level must avidly play (especially in golf tournaments); work on the mechanics of their golf swings to strengthen their weaknesses; concentrate on physical fitness; and use golf clubs that are right for them. Give me a call if you need help with your game.
I also started up the Junior Golfers’ Association of America, Inc. and its JGA Tour. It is also a non-profit organization applying for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. The purpose of the JGA of America will be to grow the game of golf on a larger level including those who are underprivileged and handicapped. For the competitor who might want to play golf in college, it will give the junior golfers of our region of the United States more opportunities to get recognized by college coaches. This will be a serious yet fun college preparatory golf tour and will offer another building block to those who are setting scholarship goals and want to see how far they can go with golf. Look for the events to take place sometime in the near future. See our Website at: www.juniorgolfers.net.
If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 609-374-1414 or 884-1563. I hope you are excited about the new growth! You can get whatever you want from golf – from having fun learning how to play the game to competing while you are having fun. Take it as serious as you want!
